The purpose of this study is to gain understanding about a nutritional product, the product is based on fish oil and curcumin. The product is currently under clinical evaluation by athletes and one of its main purposes is to reduce inflammation. We would like to examine the biodistribution of the product, which is not doable in humans. Compared to our previous biodistribution study, this time we will feed the animals the product in drinking bottles for four weeks in order to reach steady state. Also, we will study the degradation products of curcumin. During the study, blood will be sampled on a weekly basis for analysis of curmumin and its derivatives. When the study is finished, the animals will be euthanized and their organs will be harvested for quantitative analysis of curcumin and its derivatives.
A second objective is to learn more about curcher and its biodistrubtion in rats, in preparation for future studies where inflammatory disease models in rats will be used to test the anti inflammatory capabilities of Curcher.
In total we will use 24 rats during this study with an option of doing 24 more in mice. The option will depend on other studies to be performed by others and their preferred specie. Besides blood sampling from the tail vein under anesthesia, this study will not induce stress or pain in the animals.
