-The purpose of this study is to develop a reliable challenge model that can be used in the development of a vaccine against the disease caused by agent x. When this challenge model is reliable and repeatable new fish will be vaccinated with a vaccine containing antigene from pathogene X. This fish will later be challenged to test the effect of protection from the vaccine.
-We expect mortality in this study.
-The disease caused by pathogen X is a major problem in the Norwegian salmon industri and causes severe losses. The economical impact for the industri is considerable and it is a welfare issue for the fish. It is therefor of great importance to develop a vaccine against this disease.
-A total of 4291 Atlantic salmon will be included in the study.
-It is not possible to test a vaccine without a reliable challenge model. The number of fish included in this study is kept on an absolute minimum, but still high enough to enchure statistical valid results. As far as it is possible (frequent inspection of the fish in the period of excepted mortality) moribund fish will be euthanized and killed.
